HA NOI (VNS) – Viet Nam took the lead in the first day of the third Southeast Asian Vovinam Championships in Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar on Wednesday, winning five golds, four silvers and one bronze medal.
The host Myanmar came to second with three golds, two silvers and three bronzes.
Viet Nam sent 30 martial artists to the week-long event which has gathered hundreds of fighters from seven regional countries.
Viet Nam triumphed in the 2013 edition hosted in Cambodia, winning a total of 11 gold and 11 silver medals.
Vovinam, a Vietnamese martial art, has grown significantly in recent years with good results achieved on the international stage. – VNS
