Vietnam wins 2014 regional Vovinam competition

Thirty martial artists represented Vietnam to compete in 24 disciplines.

NDO – Vietnamese martial artists were successful in defending their title at the 2014 Southeast Asian Vovinam Championships in Myanmar, winning a total of nine gold, 13 silver and two bronze medals.

On the last day of competition, October 24, reigning SEA Games champion, Nguyen Thi Quyen Chan beat Myanmar’s Khin Moe San 5-0 to secure Vietnam’s last gold medal at this year’s tournament.

Six more silver medals were also added to Vietnam’s tally on the same day, with one in combat and five in the dbonstration categories.

Myanmar wrapped up the three-day event in second place with seven gold, four silver and nine bronze medals, while Cambodia finished third snagging three golds, three silvers and nine bronzes.

The third annual tournament lasted three days from October 22 to 24 in Nay Pyi Taw, attracting hundreds of fighters from seven regional countries: host Myanmar, Vietnam, Lao, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines – two delegations more than last year’s competition.

Thirty artists represented Vietnam at the tournament, 18 in the combat category and 12 in the dbonstration discipline.
