HCM City excel at National Vovinam Championships

HA NOI (VNS) — HCM City berged victorious at the National Vovinam (traditional Vietnamese martial arts) Championships that concluded in the central Thanh Hoa Province on October 8.

The team won 14 gold, one silver and four bronze medals. Can Tho came second with seven gold and four silver medals and a bronze medal. The hosts Thanh Hoa were placed third with six gold, four silver and four bronze medals.

On the last day of the competition, Le Thi Hien of Thanh Hoa won a gold medal after defeating Vinh Long’s Phung Thi Hong Tham in the final of the women’s 60kg category. After that, Hien’s teammate Nguyen Thi Dung beat Phung Thu Ha of Police to take the women’s 66kg category gold. However, Thanh Hoa’s Le Thi Trang lost to Bien Minh Khoa of the Military team in the women’s 57kg final to get the silver medal.

The five-day tournament attracted 350 martial arts fighters from 28 teams nationwide, competing for 44 sets of medals in combat and performance events.

It was jointly organised by the Viet Nam Vovinam Federation, the National Sports Administration and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. — VNS
